Saturday is Bike Safety Day in Austin.
It is also the Austin Rotary Club DARE bike-a-thon.
The Austin Medical Center – Mayo Health System and Gold Cross Ambulance Service are co-sponsoring the Bike Safety Day events, beginning 8 a.m. Saturday. Bicycle inspections by professionals will be offered free of charge and new Trek helmets will be sold at a discount.
Then, Austin Rotary Club volunteers will commence their DARE fund-raiser with a ride at 9:30 a.m. There will be a 3k and a 10k course for bicyclists.
The DARE bike-a-thon is the largest fund-raiser of its kind and benefits both the Austin Police Department and Mower County Sheriff’s Department Drug Abuse Resistance Education programs.
Pizza and pop refreshments will be served the bike-a-thon participants after Saturday morning’s ride concludes and prizes will be awarded for the most money collected for the DARE programming.
