Like most weekends, this weekend will offer plenty of things to do if you need to get out and enjoy this weekend’s promised warmer weather.
Have fun at the Y
From 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, you can spring into spring at the Austin YMCA. A great family fun night has been planned. There will be crafts, open tennis, karaoke and more. While the event is free to Y members, there is a change of $6 for non-member families. Call 433-1804.
Cooking and quilting
Head on down to St. Ansgar, Iowa, this weekend when the Blue Belle Inn will host a Little House on the Prairie Cooking and Quilting Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The seminar will celebrate the end of a long winter (is it really?) with old-fashioned recipes from Laura Ingalls Wilder’s days, such as Laura’s gingerbread, vanity cakes, apple dumplings and bean soup. Pam Schaefer-Smith of The Fabric Shoppe, now of St. Ansgar, will teach participants to make a patchwork needlebook with a quilted design reminiscent of "those happy years." Cost is $40. Call (641) 713-3113.
Sing and bowl
Karaoke will be offered from 9:30 p.m. Saturday night until 1 a.m. at Echo Lanes, 1600 10th Drive SE, Austin. Rock ‘n’ bowl!
