The council will set a public hearing regarding the preliminary platting of the Lickteig Second Addition, southwest of the intersection of 16th Street SW and 22nd Avenue SW. The site is the proposed future home of a 72-unit assisted-living and senior independent-living housing project, to be built by Primrose Inc. of Aberdeen, S.D.

At the Feb. 13 Austin Planning Commission meeting, a petition signed by 60 residents was presented.

The residents cited noise and quality of life concerns, the project’s opposition to the city’s comprehensive plan and the effect on property values as reasons they are opposed to the rezoning of the land in question, from a single-family to a multi-family zone.

No action will be taken on the issue during the meeting, except for the setting of the public meeting.

Prior to the council meeting, the finance and ordinance committees will be meeting. So, issues raised at those meetings may be added to the agenda.

The council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers.
