According to an Austin Police Department, Raymundo Veraz, 22, and his brother, Reynaldo Veraz, 23, both of Austin, were charged in connection with a fight that broke out at a dance held at Holiday Inn of Austin.

Three Austin police officers, one Mower County Sheriff’s Department deputy and one Minnesota State Patrol trooper were called to Holiday Inn of Austin to assist three Talon security firm officers in quelling the disturbance.

In the melee that broke out at the dance, Talon security firm officers were punched and chairs thrown at them.

When Raymundo Veraz was led from the premises to be placed in a police car, he resisted arrest and a crowd numbering as many as 20 people threatened the officers. Rocket, a canine unit, was released to protect Veraz and the officers and the crowd retreated.

Veraz was subdued by mace and placed in the police car for transport to the Mower County Jail. Once inside the car, Veraz became combative once again and attempted to kick out a car window. He was maced again and subdued for the ride to the jail.

He remains in the jail pending an appearance in Mower County Third Judicial District Court on charges of obstructing legal process and disorderly conduct.

His brother, Reynaldo Veraz, was also jailed on multiple counts of second and fifth degree assault, stemming from the attacks on the Talon security guards.

No injuries requiring medical attention were reported at the latest weekly dance held Sunday night at Holiday inn of Austin.

Austin Police Chief Paul M. Philipp, said the Holiday Inn of Austin made a "responsible and realistic attempt to provide adequate security" for the event.

Argument leads to injury

Austin Police Department officers were called to the Target Store Monday morning, when a verbal argument erupted between a married couple.

Target Store of Austin employees were forced to intervene when the argument escalated into a physical confrontation.

Jimmy and Maria Soler of Worthington had engaged in the verbal argument. When Maria Soler, 27, attempted to ward off her husband Jimmy, 35, while making a telephone call, the man struck his wife in the face.

A Gold Cross Ambulance Service crew was summoned to the scene and rendered first aid to Marie Soler.

Jimmy Soler was transported to the Mower County Jail, where he awaits a court appearance on assault charges.

The incident happened at 9:55 a.m. Monday inside the Target Store of Austin, according to the police report.

The couple told investigators they were visiting Austin to look for work.
