The Austin High School annex may soon be getting a new sprinkler system and a newly remodeled bleacher rail.
Lori Volz, director of business services for Austin Independent School District No. 492, is requesting approval of the bids for the work, as well as bleacher rail remodeling at Ellis Middle School, during the school board’s meeting tonight.
Carryover funds from the 1999-2000 budget year will be spent on Academy of Reading 2000 software and paraprofessional support in grades K-3 at Sumner Elementary, as well as additional teacher training in the Work Sampling Program, if the matter is approved by the board tonight.
Jason Baskin and his debate coach, Steve Fetzik, will be recognized by AHS Activities Director Naomi Hatfield for Baskin’s first-place standing in the state debate tournament. In addition, Baskin recently qualified for the national debate tournament.
Hatfield also will recognize Corey Haugen, coach for the Ellis Middle School Math League. Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students in the Math League also will be acknowledged.
Several staff changes are set to be approved, including the resignations of physical education teacher Jerome Miller at Austin High School, AHS math teacher John Miller, AHS English teacher John Ganser, AHS severe learning disabled teacher Rita Ganser and second-grade teacher Sandra Folk at Southgate Elementary School.
The course registration guide and planning guide for AHS students will be brought before the board for approval. In addition, the new technology plan for the district is set to be approved.
Finally, at the meeting, the board is expected to approve committee appointments for 2001.
