Riverland men lose to Ridgewater

Although the Riverland Community College men’s basketball team trailed by only one point at the half, they lost 74-64 Saturday to Ridgewater of Willmar in a back-and-forth match.

Although the Riverland Community College men’s basketball team trailed by only one point at the half, they lost 74-64 Saturday to Ridgewater of Willmar in a back-and-forth match.
The Blue Devils went into the second half trailing 36-35, and even had a 53-51 lead at one point. They got out real well, too, leading 18-10 at 13:43 and 24-12 at 11:55, however, Ridgewater went on a 17-4 run and trailed 29-28 with four minutes remaining in the first half.
"Shooting hurt us tonight," coach Dave Lillemon said. "We played very well on the floor. We only had 10 turnovers, but we were 20 of 56 for 30 percent. They were 22 of 42 for 52 percent."
From the line, Riverland was 15 of 20, while Ridgewater was 22 of 24. Riverland was outrebounded by Ridgewater, too, 30-24.
Scoring for the Blue Devils was Marzel Little, 15; Zak Ulwelling, 11; Nick Peters, 11; Matt Nalan, 10; Brandon Kettner, 8; Tom Yost, 6; and Jake Greenman, 3.
Riverland falls to 10-13 for the year and 4-7 in league action. They finish up their regular season on Saturday at Bethany Lutheran College.
