John McClure has been named advertising director of the Austin Daily Herald.
The Logansport, Ind., native comes to Austin from Plymouth, Ind., where he was advertising director for a daily newspaper, the Pilot News, five paid weekly newspapers (the Bremen Enquirer, The Bourbon News-Mirror, The Nappanee Advance News, The Culver Citizen and The Leader) and two free publications (the Penney Saver and the Review).
McClure received a bachelor of arts degree in journalism/advertising from Indiana University. His first position in newspapers was as an advertising representative in Monticello, Ind., with the Herald Journal. After leading sales there for two years, he was named sales manager. He left Home News Enterprises in Monticello for the position in Plymouth.
At the Austin Daily Herald, McClure will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Herald’s retail and classified sales representatives.
"John is an exceptional talent and individual," Austin Daily Herald President and Publisher Neal Ronquist said. "He brings a fresh assortment of marketing ideas to our staff that I’m sure will help area businesses grow."
McClure met Sara, his wife of 10 years, while in college. They have two daughters, Tayler, 9, and Hannah, 4.
"We’re extremely excited to have John and his family moving to Austin," Ronquist said. "I’m certain they will be tremendous assets not only for the newspaper, but also for the community."
