The Austin High School girls basketball team squared off Tuesday night at home against Mankato West in a nail-biter, with the Packers coming up two points short, 56-58.
"We played an excellent game down the stretch," AHS head coach Jim Leichtnam said. "It felt good to be in the game the whole way."
The game was a very close game by any means and the outcome was determined by clutch free throws by the Scarlets down the stretch.
Packers’ freshman Lisa Bue turned in an excellent showing with a team high 18 points in Tuesday night’s effort.
Also scoring for AHS were Stephanie Eslinger with nine points and Jenna Cummins and Amy Kelly chipped in with seven apiece.
For the Mankato West squad, which out-rebounded Austin 39-23, Van Guilder led the way with 24.
Austin travels to Owatonna on Feb. 10 to take on the Huskies. The Packers end the regular season on Feb. 22 at John Marshall.
