Troy Meyer, 34, of Austin and a suspect in the methamphetamine fire which injured two early Saturday morning, is still at large. The fire occurred at approximately 2:02 a.m. on Saturday morning when James Chilson, Austin, noticed a police squad car parked near his house and allegedly advised four individuals to pour methamphetamine ingredients, including Coleman fuel, down the floor drain in his basement. It is then thought that a spark from the water heater ignited the fumes from the fuel, causing a flash fire in the basement.
The fire was extinguished through a basement window by the Austin Fire Department. Sandra Johnson was detained at the scene. Her four-year-old son is currently in foster care. Chilson was transported to Regions Hospital in the Twin Cities with severe burns to his entire body. As of this morning he was still listed in critical condition.
Seys was detained later and released. Schammel was later located at an acquaintance’s house and was also transported to Regions Hospital with severe burns on the upper portion of his body. He is also currently listed in critical condition.
Austin police are still looking for Meyer and do not know if he sustained burns in the fire.
