Staff changes, recognition for swim team on the agenda tonight

The approval of new staff members and the resignation of one are on the agenda for the Austin School Board’s meeting tonight.
Three new teachers will be joining the district. Billy Russell is the new Area Learning Center teacher at Austin High School, replacing retiree Ruby Klingfus. Robert Usselman will start his tenure as a long-term substitute mathematics teacher on Jan. 29, also at Austin High School. Samuel Baumgartner will start today as a physical education teacher at Neveln Elementary School.
Two other employees who have already started their time in the district will be approved as well. Karen Ball started as a paraprofessional at Woodson Community School on Dec. 11 and Emily Toliver started on Jan. 3 as an ESL interpreter/tutor at Austin High School.
Two other approvals are expected to take place. Lauretta Barnett, paraprofessional at Banfield Elementary School, will be retiring March 29, and Marcia Lunt has requested to extend her leave of absence through the 2000-2001 school year.
The school board will recognize members of the Austin High School swim team, for qualifying for state competition, including: Danielle Chapek, Meghan Walsh, Lauren Goettsch, Tristen Kusterer, Lisa Champlin, Amanda Martin, Stacy Bjorlie, Sarah Heins, and head coach Lynn Gulbrandson, assistant coach Alexa Dolan and assistant and diving coach Jason Smith.
Also on the agenda are:
– A request to authorize the issuance of tax anticipation certificates.
– A request to accept and sell stock donations for KSMQ.
– A request to accept the donation of a cello to the music program at Austin High School by former music teacher Jean C. Miller.
– Sue Roehrich will present an update regarding mathematics textbooks for the new curriculum.
– A request for approval of a SEMCAC Head Start and District #492 interagency agreement.
– The setting of the informational session for goal setting, discussed during the Jan. 3 school board meeting.
