Spurred by four pins, the Austin High School wrestling team overpowered visiting Winona, 38-19, on Thursday.
After the Packers’ Dave Cunningham was barely beaten, 4-3, by Clinton Haake, T.J. Parlin stretched his unbeaten record to 21-0 with a pin over Matt Priem at 2:44.
AHS’s Spencer Wolner at 119 pounds won by technical fall over Winona’s Mark Bascovsky, 19-4, to improve his record to 12-4.
The Packers’ Marcus Ball pinned Chad Brommerich at 3:35 in the 125-pound class. Josh Kestner captured AHS’s fourth straight win at 130 pounds by decisioning Charlie Deedrick, 9-3.
At 135 pounds, Winona’s Andy Hazelton scored a major decision over Josh Solberg, 10-2.
The Packers Matt Adwell decisioned Tony Ford, 8-4, at 140 pounds to run his record to 17-7 while Winona’s Robby Tufte won by a decision over Drew Oesterle in overtime..
Matt Neumann kept AHS on the winning track with a pin of Erin Sackuder at 4:24 in the 152-pound class. The Packers’ Joe Cunningham followed up with another pin at 160 over Mitch Gordon at 1:11.
At 171 pounds, Winona’s Sean Waterbury won by technical fall over Jeff Cochran and at 189 pounds Austin’s Chad Mentel extended his season mark to 19-1 with a decision over Jarrett Wolvington, 3-1.
The Packers’ Todd Krupicka got the opportunity to go grapple with the state’s top heavyweight – Max Lossen – and the Michigan State-bound Lossen captured a 12-4 major decision. Krupicka is still 9-2 on the year.
AHS hosts Albert Lea at home next Thursday.
