RED WING – The Austin High School swim team utilized some strong individual ant team performances Saturday to take fourth at the 20001 Winger Swimming and Diving Invitational.

Senior Thomas Bjorlie and junior Joe Bauer finished third and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly to fortify the Packers’ 193 point total. Bjorlie swam a 1:00.84 in the finals and Bauer was clocked at 1:01.09. Erik Sherman finished 11th in a time of 1:06.22.

The Packers swept the top three places in the six-man field for the 100-yard breaststroke. Chris Lutz turned in a time of 1:37.70, Brandon Page was clocked at 1:40.42 with his seed time and Andy Hull swam a 1:29.95 to place all three AHS swimmers in the top 3.

AHS’ one-meter diving team met little resistance in an eight-person field. Beau Webber took second with a score of 364.50. Ryan O’Leary was third at 278.50 and Steve Knutson fourth at 245.95. Freshman Matt Johnson was seventh with a 208.10 point total.

Another strong contingent for the Packers was in the 50-yard freestyle. Ethan Simonson captured sixth in a time of :25.17. Levi Van Pelt was 100th in :25.82 and Derek Hall 14th in :26.38. Andy Gulbrandson was 17th in :27.08.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Bjorlie took ninth in a time of 1:04.50. Chris Budahn finished 12th in a time of 1:10.59 with Erik Sherman taking 14th in 1:11.24.

Joe Bauer was clocked in 2:02.74 for sixth and Carl Bauer 2:07 to finish sixth and 12th respectively in the 200-yard freestyle. In the 100-yard freestyle, Simonson finished eighth with a time of :55.50 with Tony McDermott 10th in :56.36 and Levi Van Pelt 11th in a time of :57.32.

Ben Petersen finished seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:13.21. Carl Baauer was 100th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:58.71.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Joe Bauer, Thomas Bjorlie, Ethan Simonson and Levi Van Pelt finished fourth of 16 teams with a finals time of 1:41.78.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Austin’s team of Carl Bauer, Joe Bauer, Tony McDermott and Ethan Simonson captured sixth in a 17-team field.
