In addition, there were personal injury accidents resulting from icy roadways.

Michael Edwards, 45, of Austin, faces charges after a head-on collision at 5:29 p.m. Saturday.

According to an Austin Police Department report, a case of beer was found in Edwards’ vehicle that was two-thirds empty while two open containers of beer were found in the vehicle with the driver. His blood alcohol level tested at the 0.35 level or 0.25 above the legal limit.

Christine Mead, 37 of Austin, was identified as the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision at the intersection of 12th Street and 6th Avenue Southwest. She was uninjured.

Tammy Anderson, 20 of Austin, and Colleen Zrucky, 57 of Cottage Grove, were involved in a personal injury mishap at 5:02 p.m. Friday.

The Austin Fire Department needed to use its Jaws of Life extrication equipment at the scene to free Zrucky from her vehicle.

Anderson refused treatment at the accident scene, according to a police report. Zrucky was taken to Austin Medical Center by a Gold Cross Ambulance Service crew for observation.

The mishap occurred at the intersection of 4th Street and 2nd Avenue Southwest.

No reports of any weather-related personal injury accidents in the county were submitted by the Mower County Sheriff’s Department’s deputies.

Also, Police Chief Philipp confirmed, the city of Austin had not declared a snow emergency by press-time today.

Both the police chief and County Sheriff Barry J. Simonson urged motorists to exercise caution as the first major winter storm of the season continues to strike the area.
