The first two confirmed cases included a 5-year-old and a month-old infant who required hospitalization.

Each had a different strain of the flu, but both strains were included in this year’s vaccination.

It’s not too late to consider getting a flu shot, but there are other precautions to take as well.

First of all, wash your hands. Frequent hand washing will help keep the germs at bay.

Keep your immune system strong by getting plenty of rest and drinking water to keep the body hydrated.

Most importantly, if you are ill, stay home. Don’t take the chance of infecting your co-workers, families, friends or even perfect strangers.

Influenza may not be life threatening for the majority of the population, but it can be deadly to others.

People over 65, people with chronic illnesses and people weakened immune systems are at risk if they contract the flu.

Their well-being is something to bear in mind if you find yourself battling the bug.
