BYRON – The Awesome Blossoms wrestlers had a disappointing day Saturday at a quadrangular meet at Byron, losing all three meets.
Three Blooming Prairie grapplers, however, went 3-0 for the day at the Scharberg Invitational. They included 103-pounder Grant Johnson, who won by two falls and a technical fall; 145-pounder Tim Schlund, who won by three falls; and 152-pounder Steven Salinas, who won by two falls and a technical fall.
"The middle match against LaCrescent was a really good match all the way through," coach Dave Pfiefer said, adding that the team got a pin right away and lost a few one-point matches and another by only two points. In the meet against Byron, Blooming Prairie was as close as 27-25 after the 160-pound match, but then lost and got behind before they got to the heavyweight match.
The meet against Zumbrota-Mazeppa didn’t go as well, Pfiefer said. The Blossoms forfeited two matches, which put the team behind even before getting going.
Other scores from the Scharberg Invitational: Zumbrota-Mazeppa 36, Byron 22; La Crescent 37, Byron 33; Zumbrota-Mazeppa 32, La Crescent 28.
