Kenric Scheevel is ready to move forward on some pressing issues in Mower and Fillmore counties.
The incumbent state senator from District 31 will now be able to act on his plans as voters elected him to another term Tuesday, defeating Democratic challenger Dave Blanchard by a vote total of 23,228 to 13,000.
Scheevel, of Preston, said the flooding issue is something that needs to be worked on cooperatively by Mower and Fillmore counties.
He also wants to alleviate the pressure of a state-wide housing crunch and lowering the property tax rate on apartments. That, he hopes, will help reinforce the construction of affordable housing.
Davids retains House seat
Republican Greg Davids, an incumbent from Preston, was re-elected Tuesday to his seat in the State House.
Davids, a five-time representative, was first elected to his District 31B seat in the House in 1991. He defeated Republican Al Heins by just more than 3,000 votes, with the final tally of 9,586 to 6,503.
Davids said it is now time to continue his push to lower the tax burden on Mower County and Minnesota families and protect the right to life. He also plans to broaden economic opportunities for rural Minnesotans and farmers.
Davids is chairman of the House commerce committee and serves on several other committees, including agricultural policy, ethics, jobs and economic development, and transportation policy committees.
