WORTHINGTON – Senior Rhianna Jacobs scored three goals and added an assist as the Austin High girls hockey team earned a season-opening win here Friday.

WORTHINGTON – Senior Rhianna Jacobs scored three goals and added an assist as the Austin High girls hockey team earned a season-opening win here Friday.
Jacobs opened the scoring with five seconds remaining in the first period to give Austin a 1-0 lead.
Worthington answered with two goals in an 11 second span in the second period to take a 2-1 lead, but Jacobs tied it at 2-2 less than two minutes later with her second unassisted goal of the night.
Austin freshman Courtney Hughes scored what proved to be the game-winner just 29 seconds after Jacobs tied it. Jacobs assisted on the Hughes goal.
Melissa Dickhut added two unassisted goals in the second period and Jacobs closed out the scoring with 5:05 remaining in the third period on a feed from Jenny Nemitz on the power play.
"We started out a little slow, but the girls were aggressive," Austin coach Denny Bray said. "We got stronger as the game went on against a good goaltender."
Austin outshot Worthington 35-9.
The Packers next game is Tuesday at Waseca at 7 p.m. Their first home contest is Tuesday, Nov. 28 against Albert Lea.
