Two evenly matched teams with entirely different styles batted to a 1-1 tie Tuesday night at Wescott Field.
The contest matched the long ball play of the Rochester John Marshall Rockets and the build through the midfield philosophy of the Packers.
"We both came into play with identical 6-10-1 records," Austin coach Dave Graham said. "With the difference in styles there was a lot of action."
The Rockets had the better of the play in the first half but it was Austin scoring first. It was Jesse Morgan getting a big foot on the ball on a Mike Inthisane throw-in at the 16:39 mark.
John Marshall responded just two minutes later with eight-grader Halil Dudakovic putting home a loose ball from 15 yards out after a madcap defensive effort by Austin.
"We were worried about number 8 (Dudakovic) and 10 (his brother Amel who is a senior)," Graham said. "We did a good job of controllin them except for one play. Our defense played great with the back three of Dustin Lunde, Todd Christopherson, and Scott Wheeler doing a terrific job,"
"They played a great defensive game," John Marshall coach Tony Birch said. "They kept us outside and didn’t give us any good close in shots."
