A Rochester youth stole one car and took two acquaintances to Austin on a joy ride.
He was caught driving the stolen vehicle in Austin, but eluded arrest and stole another car and drove back to Rochester where he was arrested driving the second stolen vehicle.
According to an Austin Police Department report, the 17-year-old male picked up Patrick J. Huskisson, 20 of Rochester, and a 15-year-old companion and drove them to Austin.
When the vehicle was reported stolen, an Austin police officer on routine patrol spotted the car traveling eastbound on West Oakland Avenue and stopped the car.
The traffic stop occurred at 12:10 a.m. Wednesday, but the driver ran from the scene and into the nearby neighborhood.
Officers searched for the youth, but were unable to find him. The two passengers, Huskisson and the 15-year-old juvenile, were taken into custody.
At 1 a.m., the Rochester Police Department reported apprehending a juvenile, driving a vehicle registered to an Austin owner.
When Austin police checked with the owner of the vehicle, they discovered it had been stolen from a 21st Street SW address.
Austin police theorized the 17-year-old ran through the southwest Austin neighborhood, looking for a car to steal, found one with the keys left in it and drove back to Rochester, where he was captured.
The youth faces charges of felony motor vehicle theft and possession of stolen property plus possible other charges, according to police.
The two passengers in the first stolen vehicle face tampering with a motor vehicle charges.
Intersection collision
Olive Sylvia Felton, 76 of Austin, was injured in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday at 5:10 p.m.
According to an Austin Police Department report, the collision occurred at the intersection of Fourth Avenue and 21st Street SE, when Felton pulled into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by Daniel Charnecki, 42 of Austin.
A Gold Cross Ambulance Service crew took Felton to Austin Medical Center hospital emergency room for treatment of possible injuries.
A passenger, Virginia Johnson, 76 of Austin, did not require medical treatment.
Charnecki, who was alone in his vehicle, was also uninjured.
