MANKATO - Justin Bennett’s hole-in-one on the par-3 154-yard No. 14 hole at the Mankato Country Club highlighted his round of 75 Monday.
Bennett’s score was good enough to leave him in a tie for first place in the Minnesota Community College Conference state meet and in second place in the Region XIII Meet, which includes teams from Minnesota, North Dakota and Wisconsin.
The Riverland men are in fourth place out of 12 teams in the state meet with a total score of 336. Central Lakes Community College leads the team race with a 309 score, followed by Rainy River’s 323 and Northland Community College’s 333. Bethany College trails Riverland by just one stroke after the first day.
Riverland’s score leaves it in sixth place in the team race in the Region meet. Central Lakes and Rainy River are also in first and second place, respectively, in the regional race. Milwaukee Area Technical College is in third with a score of 327, while Northland is in fourth and Bismark (N.D.) College sits in fifth with a 334 total.
The Riverland women are in fourth place out of eight teams in both the Region and State meets with a total of 371 after the first day of competition.
Kelly Leif led the Blue Devils with a 105, followed by Tamara Schimmler’s 126 and Tiffany Moon’s 137. Central Lakes leads the women’s team competition with a 267, followed by Bethany (289) and Itasca CC (346).
Riverland’s Bennett teed off in today’s last group, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The top 10 finishers in the Region meet advance to the national tournament next spring, as does the top team.
