In the aftermath of last Wednesday’s 20-2 vote by licensed practical nurses at St. Mark’s, the residential care facility must face dealing with another unit of employees recognized by a union.

Local 789 of the United Food and Commercial Workers union will be the authorized bargaining agent for the employees after the vote.

Ingersoll said St. Mark’s does not, at this time, plan to appeal the election.

In addition to assuring all that care giving at St. Mark’s will not be affected, he also said, "We are confident our nurses will not let that happen."

He said he was disappointed that a third party – Local UFCW’s representative Jennifer Swanson – had to become involved.

Ingersoll concluded, "We will work as we have in the past to solve any issues that may arise."
