Burglary suspects arrested
LEROY – The Mower County Sheriff’s Department was aided by a late-night observer in capturing the people responsible for overnight burglaries in Iowa and Minnesota.
According to a Sheriff’s Department report, an 18-year-old LeRoy male, who was not identified, saw a vehicle and four occupants leave the Amoco station at LeRoy, where he also noticed a window broken.
The driver followed the car into the nearby countryside and observed items being thrown from the windows.
Using the county’s new rural street signs and a cell phone, he called 9-1-1 and alerted deputies on patrol to what he had seen at 3:38 a.m. today.
The deputies sped to the scene and stopped the vehicle and took four people into custody.
Two adults and two females from the Grand Meadow and Olmsted County areas are in custody, pending formal charges of burglary and possession of stolen property.
Three of the four suspects have outstanding arrest warrants issued in Olmsted County.
Chief Deputy Terese Amazi said the individuals arrested overnight "could be connected" to other burglaries in the LeRoy and Ostrander communities in recent weeks.
Among the items taken were lottery tickets from Iowa businesses and beef jerky.
No weapons were found in the possession of the four suspects.
