Registration is under way for the Austin Youth Football League season.
The registration fee is $15 per family. Late registration is $25 per player.
The deadline for registration is Friday, August 11.
All registrations can be made at South Central Athlete in downtown Austin.
According to the AYFL announcement, anyone registering after August 11 will be charged a late fee and will not be guaranteed a spot on a team in their area.
Equipment will be distributed August 21 and 22 at Riverside Arena. Eighth graders will receive their equipment August 21, beginning at 6 p.m. and seventh graders will receive their equipment August 22 also beginning at 6 p.m.
Fifth and sixth grades’ players will receive their equipment Tuesday, August 22, at 6 p.m. also at Riverside Arena.
All football players are advised to have haircuts to make it easier for helmets to fit and to wear shorts and no sweat pants.
There will be no registration on the equipment distribution nights.
This marks the 27th Austin Youth Football Association-sponsored season of gridiron action for fifth through eighth grade players
The association stresses participation, fundamentals, sportsmanship and team effort throughout its 6-game season.
The policy of the association is that every team of 22 players or less will provide a starting position either offensively or defensively for each player.
Also, players who consistently miss practice will not be expected to start in games.
Once again, the association’s teams will participate in the Hy-Vee Food Store of Austin Appreciation Day activities. It is one of only two fund-raisers the organization holds each year. The date will be announced later.
The last day for rosters and full equipment distribution is Monday, August 28.
The first day of scrimmage is Saturday, Sept. 2, at Wescott Athletic Field. The first games will be played Saturday, September 16. The schedule continues with Saturday-only games through October 21.
Last year’s sponsors included Southland Boosters, Austin Drug, Carney’s, US Bank Austin, Sterling Drug, American Legion, Eagles, G&G Heating, Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, George’s Pizza, gopher Distributing, McDonald’s and Elks.
Dan Ball (433-6724) is the association president.
Dave Dammen (433-7167) is the association’s vice president and treasurer.
