Austin team comes away 2-2 at tourney

The Austin Weyerhaeuser 16 and under Fast Pitch softball team competed in the Minnesota Class A state tournament this past weekend in Eagan.

The Austin Weyerhaeuser 16 and under Fast Pitch softball team competed in the Minnesota Class A state tournament this past weekend in Eagan. Austin, with a 2-2 record, finished one win away from qualifying for a trip to a National Regional tourney.
Austin began the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Fridley. They then won two straight games in the loser’s bracket – 15-3 over Elk River and 3-2 over the Minnetonka Lady Devils. Austin scored 10 runs in the sixth inning against Elk River. Betsy Hingeveld got the win. Amy Kelly the got the win over Minnetonka.
Austin then was among the final 16 teams out of a field of 34 left in the tourney. The top 12 teams would get an invite to various National Regional tourneys. Austin needed to beat Lakeville. Austin scored the first run of the game but Lakeville then scored the next 10 to take the game 10-1.
