Jeff Anderson, a lifelong Austin resident, made his candidacy for the Minnesota House of Representatives official today when he filed for office at the Mower County auditor’s office.
While signing on the dotted line, Anderson said his campaign would be about working-class issues.
He said "providing a quality education for our children and lowering taxes during this time of surpluses" would be important in his campaign.
"The building block that our community needs to continue moving forward in the world today is quality education for our children," Anderson said.
Citing 17 consecutive budget surpluses, Anderson also wants to permanently reduce taxes on working families and individuals.
"Working families and seniors alike face tight budgets," Anderson said. "We can loosen that budget belt by lowering their taxes and returning their hard-earned tax dollars."
Growing up in Austin as the son of a Hormel Foods Corp. worker and an educational assistant, Anderson comes from a working-class background.
"I know what it is like to work hard and still struggle to make ends meet. That is why I will work hard to be the state representative that will represent those working-class values and issues in St. Paul," he said.
Anderson and his wife Heidi have three children and live in northwest Austin.
