An Austin man was killed Friday in a two-vehicle accident.
Timmy DeBoer, 48, was killed in the accident Friday afternoon near Crews Auto Salvage near Austin.
According to Mower County Sheriff’s Department reports, the accident occurred at 1:25 p.m. Saturday along Mower County CSAH No. 16 near the entrance to Crews Auto Salvage.
A vehicle driven by Gerald Martin Hoesing, 22, of Austin, was southbound, when the driver pulled onto the right shoulder of the roadway to stop. DeBoer was the only passenger in the compact Suzuki Samurai sport utility vehicle.
Moments later, he attempted a left turn into the driveway of the Crews Auto Salvage business and into the path of a passenger vehicle driven by Rebecca Helen Charlson, 23, of Austin.
DeBoer was flown by the Mayo One helicopter to a Rochester hospital, where he died later of massive injuries.
The drivers of the two vehicles, Hoesing and Charlson, were taken to Austin Medical Center-Mayo Health Systems for treatment and observation of their injuries.
Two children in the Charlson vehicle were strapped into their seats, according to the accident report, and escaped injury.
They were Elijah George, 1, and Collin George, 2. Both are sons of Rebecca Helen Charlson.
According to Mower County Sheriff Barry J. Simonson, the Minnesota State Patrol’s accident reconstructionist also will investigate the fatal accident.
