Looking for something to do? With the SPAMTOWN USA Festival in town this weekend, you won’t find a lack of activities. From rides on the SPAMTOWN Belle to a watermelon-eating contest, you won’t have to go far for fun. Here are some highlights of the festival:
Gotta have a SPAMBURGER
How can you attend SPAM Jam without eating a SPAMBURGER? You probably can’t! America’s favorite luncheon meat will be served on a bun from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. You’ll also be able to eat SPAM Kabobs.
Hear the SPAMETTES
SPAM and the SPAMETTES. They go together like bread and butter. Hear the local singing group perform twice on Saturday – at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on stage.
Run or walk
A five-mile SPAM run kicks off from the tent area at East Side Lake at 9 a.m. Saturday. If that’s too fast for your running shoes, try the three-mile Fun Walk for Health, which starts at 8:30 a.m. at the tent.
Try Burma Shave
Or you can check out the rhyming SPAM signs that will be displayed along Oakland Drive beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday.
Float your boat
The SPAMTOWN Belle paddle boat will offer rides from the dock area at East Side Lake Park from 9 to 10:45 a.m. and then again from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Sit back and relax on the lake.
Faster boats
If the SPAMTOWN Belle isn’t your speed, be sure to check out the Power Boat Grand Prix on the lake beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. Members of the Twin Cities Power Boat Association will rev up their motors on the north side of East Side Lake and compete for cash prizes.
All for the family
There will be plenty of family games on the midway from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Play minigolf, Pick-A-SPAMMY, gelatin jump or check out SPAM Mountain.
Frisbee fun
A disc golf tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday at the pavilion at Todd Park. Check out the Frisbee players who are coming from near and far.
How many ways?
Laying awake at night thinking up new ways to use SPAM in recipes? Well, if you haven’t, others have. The SPAM Recipe Contest gets under way at 11 a.m. Saturday in the product display in the tent area on East Side Lake.
Fun faces
The SPAM Mask Contest starts at noon in the tent area. Check out some very unique ways of displaying SPAM on your face. And while the judges are deciding who’s got the best SPAM face, you can watch the parade of masks.
BINGO!
If Bingo’s your game, there are plenty of opportunities to play on Saturday. The tent area will host several rounds of Bingo – at 9 a.m. and 1, 2:30 and 4 p.m.
