The Austin American Legion Post 91 baseball team showed up Monday night – and that was about it.
The Rochester Patriots took home the win with a score of 13-3 in five innings.
Coach Mike Raso said the team played its worst game of the year: "no intensity, no hitting, no defense and no pitching."
Raso said the team took the fundamental approach in the first inning by manufacturing a run and thought it would be nice to grab an early lead, but said pitcher Nick Rohne didn’t have his best stuff and his control was off for the game.
Rohne took the loss with three innings pitched. He gave up seven runs and six hits. He also gave up a homer and two walks from the mound.
"Credit the Patriots," Raso said. "They hit the ball better than I’ve seen them hit before. I’ve said all along they would be the team to beat – and they showed it."
Syd Schramm clobbered a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Post, making the score 7-3, however, the Patriots came back with six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to end it at 13-3.
The Post team committed what Raso called an uncharacteristic four errors during the game.
Austin (9-9, 1-2 league) returns home for a game against Waseca at 7 tonight at Marcusen Park in a league game.
