The Austin Packers continue to pile up the runs this week. Thursday night they scored an even dozen to walk away with a 12-2 win over the Stewartville/Racine Merchants in seven innings.
The big hitters for Austin included Matt Raso who was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Nick Rohne who smacked two triples, and Matt Juncker who led off the seventh with a home run that hit the scoreboard in left field at Marcusen Park.
"It is my second home run of the year," Juncker said. "I’m starting to get my stroke down after taking a week off earlier in the season."
Brian Parlin got the win on the mound. It was his swan song for the Packers as he will get back to wrestling after this weekend’s play. Parlin struck out two in the game. When asked what was working for him Parlin said, "My defense."
The defense behind Parlin put together two 5-4-3, Raso-to-Mitch Mullenbach-to-Mike Schulke, double plays.
The second of the two was ground into by Josh Diemer one of Parlin’s good friends since they played against each other in High School, Parlin with Lyle/Pacelli and Diemer with LeRoy-Ostrander.
Parlin in three starts with the Packers ends up 2-1 on the season.
Austin is at Loretto tonight to play St. Michael’s. This weekend they play in a tournament in Fairmont.
