Kiwanis track meet is tonight

Tonight the Austin Noon Kiwanis will be hosting a Track Meet.

Tonight the Austin Noon Kiwanis will be hosting a Track Meet. The meet is open to anyone age three and up. Field events begin at 6:15 p.m. and running events at 6:30 p.m. and both are free of charge. All participants will receive ribbons. The Austin Noon Kiwanis will be hosting a second track meet on July 18.
Frohreich, Ramlo win Ramsey best shot
The Two Lady Best Shot at Ramsey Golf Club took place Wednesday afternoon. First place was won by Irene Frohreich and Lucille Ramlo. Finishing second through 10th were: Mary Jo Swoboda and Carol Bulson; Betty Jorgenson and Carleen Helland; Vi O’Connor and Jan Thissen; Judy McGuire and Winnie Swank; Jeanette Duren and Marie Wiese; Linda Miller and Norma Brown; Alice Mae Leif and Maryls Dunlop; Penna Lee and Joyce Anderson; and Petra Ihrke and Mary Anderson.
Rebels announce
baseball awards
Southland’s Baseball awards were announced this week.
Three Rebels were named All-Southeast Conference and one was named Honorable Mention Southeast Conference. The All-conference members are Syd Schramm, Joel Menuey and Nate Bergene. Mark Mauer earned Honorable Mention. Schramm also was the teams most Most Valuable player and won the Rebels’ Batting Trophy. Schramm was also selected to the Section 1A Academic All-State team. The Rebel Award went to Adam Churchill and Brandon Dvergsten.
Legion Softball
The Austin American Legion softball team took two from Faribault on Tuesday. Amber Wilson threw a shutout in the first game of the day as Austin won 3-0. Game two saw Austin out slug Faribault 7-5.
Wilson struck out five and gave up just two hits in the opener. Devon Esse had two RBI in the game and Kellie Petersen one. Tiffany Poirier scored twice.
Abbey Bergstrom got the win in game two. She gave up eight hits, walked one batter, and hit a batter.
Joni Sheedy was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Mel Gabrielson, Poirier and Bergstrom all batted in one runner in the contest.
The Legion is now 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in the league.
