A fight in the Brown Derby Bar led to arrests for three of the four people involved and the identification of a man wanted on a Minneapolis warrant.
Officers Lt. Dave Simonson and others Austin police officers were called to the scene by the bar staff.
At the scene, Jorge Cantu reported that he was arguing with two men in the bar, when he called for help from Terry Williams. When Williams, 34, headed over to assist Cantu, one of the other men hit Williams in the head with a bar glass. Williams was cut above the eye, and taken to Austin Medical Center-Mayo Health System by police.
A female witness said she chased the man who hit Williams with the glass, caught him and ripped his shirt before he got away. She said the man she chased had a shaved head. While police were talking to the witness and Cantu, a shirtless man with a shaved head was spotted across the street. The man put up his arms as if to surrender, it said in the police report, and laid down on the street in a spread-eagled fashion. The man was identified as Thanh Doan, 26.
Doan was arrested for second-degree assault. Kiet Nguyen, who was involved in the fight on the side of Doan, was arrested for disorderly conduct, as was Cantu. Williams was not charged in relation to the fight, but officers attempted to put him in jail on a Minneapolis warrant. Staff at the jail refused to book Williams because of his head injury, so he was released.
