Austin Police Chief Paul M. Philipp confirmed Erickson could be disciplined for his activities, while visiting Las Vegas, Nev. and being arrested there.

The charges stem from an apparent brawl at a hotel-casino in Las Vegas, while Erickson was there on vacation.

He joined the Austin police force in November 1983.

Dahmen discharged

Long-time Mower County Sheriff’s Department jailer Sherry Dahmen is no longer a county employee.

Dahman claims she was wrongfully discharged from her job, but Mower County Chief Deputy Terese Amazi confirmed today Dahman resigned May 29.

Dahmen was unavailable for comment when contacted by the Austin Daily Herald.

The jailer was hired by former County Sheriff Wayne P. Goodnature 15 years ago. News accounts at the time chronicled her criminal record and drug addiction.

Another dog-bite incident

A pit bull dog belonging to Margraito Esquiviel, 58540 220 Street (Highway 16 East), has bitten someone for the third time.

According to a Mower County Sheriff’s Department report, a five-year old boy, riding a bicycle was bitten by the dog at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Esquiviel lives in a house next to B&D Auto in the Nicolville area east of Austin Country Club.

The dog was on a long chain lease, according to the sheriff’s department report.

In two other dog-biting incidents involving the same animal adults were bitten.

The child suffered a superficial puncture wound and was treated and released at Austin Medical Center – Mayo Health System’s hospital emergency room.

The dog’s owner faces being issued a potentially dangerous animal certificate and the strict provisions, including confinement and buying an indemnity bond, according to the sheriff’s report.
