The Austin Avalanche Classic 2 U17 soccer team is having a fair season. They went into Wednesday night’s game with Lakeville with a 1-1-4 mark.
"We are the tie champions," co-coach Mark Raymond said.
Against Lakeville at Todd Park they fell behind 3-0. They never gave up and rallied back to within 3-2, but eventually fell 4-2.
At the end of the first half, Katie McClain scored Austin’s first goal from the left wing. Moments earlier she had a similar shot that was stopped. This time she banged it home.
Halfway through the second half, it was McKenzie Murray scoring to pull the Avalanche to within one.
"We haven’t had quite enough practices to totally learn a new system," Raymond said. "Tonight we were a little flat to begin with but had a lot of hustle and good play after that."
This weekend Austin will play in an eight-team tournament in LaCrosse, Wis. Austin should gain a lot of experience as they move up an age level, in that, the tournament is for U19 teams. Their first game is against Elk River. Wausau and LaCrosse also are in their pool.
