It was more rain in one day than the city had seen all year. But the city was prepared.
Local law enforcement quickly mobilized to close off sections of streets and roads that were too flooded for cars to pass through.
Officials also evacuated parts of town that could be cut off and isolated by floods.
In place was a system to notify residents that their homes were in danger of rising waters. Businesses were also told of the threats the overwhelming amounts of rain may bring.
Volunteers also were on the scene. They helped rescue the decorated concrete pigs for tonight’s Pigs in the City event. Volunteer firefighters responded to calls.
Area workers pulled some long shifts to make repair damaged phone lines and power outages.
We all came through it. It was a result of proper plans being in place and followed through. And those plans that had flaws surfaced and undoubtedly will be fixed before there’s a "next" time.
Emergency plans are there for a reason. We should be glad this community is prepared.
