As many of you know, we said farewell to Iris Hansen on Wednesday. Iris is starting a new endeavor; we wish her well and all will miss her. Congratulations, Iris.

May is Older Americans Month and this is a special time to remember how important our senior population is to all of us. We all need the mentorship of an older American for we need the wisdom they have through lifetime experiences. Our hats off to all of you!

Our first exciting event for the month of May began today, Remember When Day. From 4 to 8 p.m. today, we will have a Remember When Day Hip Hop Dance. Listen to nostalgic tunes of years gone by; DJ Dennis McDonough of Excalibur, a fantastic show of sound and light, will be presenting the music. Admission is only $2 per person. There will be a prize for best costume, so break out those saddle shoes and bring a friend for some old-time fun. Pop & hot dogs will be served at intermission for $1. This dance is open to the public.

The Minnesota attorney general’s office will present a program this week on "Take the ‘I’ Out of Victim" on frauds, scams, door-to-door sales and telemarketing. Deb Strafaccia from the attorney general’s office will be at the center at 10 a.m. Thursday to help you from becoming a victim. This presentation is sponsored by Southeast Minnesota Regional Legal Services Inc. and Mower County Seniors Inc.

On May 16, Mary Kittelson, senior advocate, will present a travelogue on Rome. Come and bring a friend to delight in the sharing of Mary’s recent adventure. Travelogues are free and open to the public.

May 8 to 12 is National Nurses Week. We would like to say thank you to all the dedicated nurses who have given their time and talent to serve the people over the past year who have patronized their services. Thank them this week when you have your blood pressure checked. Blood-pressure clinics are Mondays and Thursdays from 8 to 11 a.m.

Now is your opportunity to sign up for our Mystic Lake Casino trip scheduled for May 18. This trip includes admission to the 2 p.m. show, "Just Kidding," starring Pudgy, the queen of tease, and featuring vocalist Ted Winn and the Mystic Dancers. Cost is $8 for senior center members and $10 for non-members. We are boarding the bus at the Riverside Arena parking lot’s northeast corner at 7:30 a.m., departing at 7:45 a.m. Call 433-2370 to register.
