Stuck for an idea for a Mother’s Day gift? Looking for something a little bit magical, dreamy, full of life and adventure?
Look no further – the Guthrie Theatre is coming to town next weekend and bringing with it artistic director Joe Dowling’s astounding production of Shakespeare’s most popular play, "A Midsummer Night’s Dream." For the mother who wants romantic love but likes a little mischief thrown in, it’s the perfect gift.
The play spans only one night, but what a night. Four young lovers set out into the forest for the night to escape the repressive atmosphere of the court. What they find is the lush, sensual world of the fairy kingdom populated by fantastical beings – including one very mischievious fairy and right hand to fairy king Oberon – Puck. It is Puck who makes the whole affair a confusing mix, with hilarious results, for most of the night. However, as dawn washes over the forest, proper order is restored and the night and its antics come to a close.
