Smith, director of placement for Riverland Community College, was one of the committee members who helped set up the stage at Riverside Arena on Tuesday for Riverland’s commencement ceremony Thursday evening. Meanwhile, at left, Kris Gullord, director of student affairs, also helped set up the stage, while Barb Orcutt, a counselor at the Austin campus, supervised some of the work. More than 450 students will graduate from Riverland this spring and at least 230 will participate in the ceremony. Morris J. Anderson, chancellor for Minnesota State Colleges and Universities, will deliver the keynote address. Also, Dr. Roger Baughton, a retired Riverland administrator, will receive an honorary degree from the college. The award is given to those who further the mission of the college. The Briars will perform at the commencement ceremony. Riverland’s commencement is open to the public. It will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Riverside Arena. Immediately following the ceremony is a party at the Holiday Inn of Austin for graduates and their families. It’s being sponsored by the Austin and Albert Lea campuses’ Student Senates.
