The apple of college coaches’ eyes throughout the basketball season, the 6-foot, 7-inch forward practiced patience before finally revealing his decision on Tuesday.

The Packer will play hoops for Division III Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.

Schieck, an Academic All-State honoree in basketball, averaged 10.5 points and 7 rebounds during his senior season as a Packer.

He turned down chances to attend St. Olaf College and Luther College, where his father, Joel, once played basketball.

"They’re all great academic schools," said Schieck. "It was a tough decision."

Schieck will play for Coach Guy Kalland, whose team finished 9-15 last season.

Schieck said he’ll likely study economics or biology in college.

And though he ruled out his father’s alma mater, he said if he studies biology he may follow his father into dentistry.
