High winds howled Wednesday night throughout the area.
Wind gusts up to 57 miles per hour were reported by KAUS AM-FM newscasters.
According to the Austin Police and Mower County Sheriff’s departments, no wind-related accidents or damages were reported.
The Minnesota State Patrol did close Highway 105 South between Mower County CSAH No. 28 and the KAUS radio station headquarters for a couple of hours.
The strong winds and blowing sand and dirt obscured vision making travel hazardous.
A tree was uprooted at the Bruce Hovland farm along Highway 105 South.
Once again, officials warn of the dangers of open burning. A ban has not been initiated in Mower County, but extreme caution is urged for any fires outdoors.
Counterfeit bills appear
Two more counterfeit bills were discovered in deposits made at Norwest Bank Austin.
The discoveries were made by the same bank employee in deposits made Wednesday, according to an Austin Police Department report.
A counterfeit $100 bill was discovered in a deposit from CT Farm & Country and a counterfeit $20 bill was discovered in a deposit made by Severson’s Conoco Station.
Both are Austin businesses.
Each counterfeit bill was of the new design, according to the report.
This brings to seven counterfeit bills discovered in recent weeks in Austin.
All of them have been turned over to the U.S. Treasury Department for investigation.
