According to Austin Police Department reports, a citizen in a hot tub outside his southwest Austin home heard six to eight gunshots.

The citizen also observed a dark green Chevrolet Suburban vehicle being chased by a dark red pickup truck.

The chase and gunfire occurred in the 1100 block of 26th Street SW, but the chase continued on 24th Street SW, then 21st Street and onto 16th Avenue SW, where the vehicles headed east toward Casey’s General Store at the intersection with 12th Street SW.

Citizens also reported hearing gunshots in the area of the wastewater treatment plant Sunday.

The reports were made to the Austin-Mower County Law Enforcement Center beginning at 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Officers investigated both neighborhoods, but no vehicles matching the descriptions were found.

Offices burglarized

The dental offices of Dr. David A. Elrod, 800 First Ave. SW, were burglarized over the weekend.

According to an Austin Police Department report, the break-in was discovered 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

A small amount of money was reported missing.

Fight at Holiday Inn

Austin Police Department officers were called to the Holiday Inn Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Holiday Inn personnel reported fights among attendees at a dance.

When officers arrived at 12:42 a.m. Sunday, a large crowd was milling about in the parking lot and broken beer bottles were strewn about.

Hector Estrada, 20, of Albert Lea, was taken into custody and jailed. Estrada faces charges of disorderly conduct and second-degree assault.

He allegedly assaulted at least one other person at the dance, according to the police report.

The victim suffered lacerations to his face and head, but was treated at Austin Medical Center and released.

Also arrested at the scene was the mother of the victim, who was wanted on a Steele County warrant charging her with obtaining public benefits falsely, plus another male on another warrant for unrelated charges.

During the questioning of the dance attendees, two males were taken into custody when they admitted they were in the United States illegally.
