Erin Orvik hit a couple of big three-point baskets in the fourth quarter to lead the Southland Rebels to a 54-46 win over Lyle/Pacelli at Pacelli High School on Thursday.
With Southland up four in the closing quarter, Orvik quickly increased the lead to 10 and the Rebels cruised from there.
"We let her get a couple of wide open shots," L/P coach Steve Baumann said. "We also had a defensive lapse in the first half.
"Our press let down and they made some layups to close out the half with a 9-0 run. We also made some costly turnovers."
Mary Landherr was the leading scorer for Southland with 14. Betsy Matheis and Andrea O’Connell each scored 11, Orvik threw in nine.
L/P’s Julie Rugg was the leading scorer in the game with 15. She knocked down two threes. Laura Nelson scored 13 and Tammy May 10.
Southland is now 5-10 on the year and 2-2 in the SEC West Division. They next play LeRoy-Ostrander in LeRoy on Tuesday.
"Our record is a little deceiving," Southland coach Earl Orvik said. "We have played some good teams. Eight of the 15 games have been against Class AA competition."
L/P (5-11, 1-4) travels to Faribault tonight to play Shattuck-St. Mary’s. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Cardinals put themselves into good position for at least a share of the SEC West Division with a win over the Superlarks at Grand Meadow.
They only trail Fillmore Central.
The Cardinals stand at 4-2 the Falcons at 4-1.
L-O went out to a 20-5 lead after one quarter.
"We battled back in the game, but we didn’t quite get it done," Grand Meadow coach Mike Norton said. "We didn’t shoot well throughout the game. We were 13-of-42 from the field and 16-of-32 from the free throw line."
Angie Holst was again the leading scorer for Grand Meadow with 23 points. Eighth-grader Pam Lantz put in eight and Annie Steinkamp six.
Kelly Davis, Kaela Bucknell and Holly Johnson each scored nine points for L-O. All of Johnson’s points came from the free throw line. L-O was 20-of-41 from the line.
"There were a lot of whistles in the game," Norton said.
Grand Meadow (2-13, 2-4) is at Fillmore Central next Tuesday.

Blossoms victorious
The Blooming Prairie Blossoms played a strong second half to come home with a 46-38 win from Glenville-Emmons.
After one quarter, Blooming Prairie was down 11-9.
Mark Vermilyea then provided a spark.
He scored half of the Blossoms 24 points in the second quarter. The Blossoms took the lead, 33-30.
BP then picked up their defense giving up just eight points in each of the final two quarters. They scored a baker’s dozen in each.
"We played a lot better defense in the second half," Blooming Prairie coach Jon Bruns said. "We gave up too many easy baskets in the second quarter. We played much better in the second half, not letting them have any easy opportunities."
Vermilyea and Bryan Kramer each scored 14 in the game; they both made two three-point baskets.
Corey Wencl hit one long distant shot.
Nick Nelson was the third Blossom in double-figures with a dozen points.
Blooming Prairie (5-10, 4-4 in the Gopher Conference) next plays Saturday at Adams against Southland.
