Along with the Y2K scare and the turn of the millinium, there chanced to appear a newborn baby in Austin. At 5:11 a.m. on Saturday, Tierney Severson gave birth to a healthy, 8 pound-7 ounce baby boy. Born 20 inches tall, the baby, Grey, was also greeted into the world by his grandparents, Robin and Randy South. Grey will always be able to claim that he was one of the first of the millenium, but that is not the only perk to being a millenium baby, the staff at the Austin Medical Center made sure of that. The hospital had a gift basket prepared for whoever had a baby on New Years’. Among the presents they gave to the newborn was a Precious Moments figure for January birthdays, a brown furry teddy bear, a small quilt and chocolate bon bons (for the mother). Grey also receives a lifetime subscription to the Austin Daily Herald.
