Yet another reduced levy rolled into the news Thursday as Mower County announced a large reduction in property taxes. This followed on the heels of smaller reductions from the school district and the city, all of which add up quite nicely for property owners in the area.

Congratulations are due to our officials and administrators who can effectively work with lesser amounts of money. They could have taken the money and run, kept the levy up and poured the money into programs.

Instead, elected and appointed officials found ways to save the taxpayers money.

Though each taxpayer may not see a huge reduction, any reduction is a good one. Most people would rather pay less now than receive a small check from a large surplus later.
