Jerry Bates, 59

Jerry A. Bates, 59, Wichita Falls, Texas, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999 at Bethania Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas.

· Service: 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999 at Dexter United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Wilson officiating.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery in Austin with military rites by American Legion Post 91 and VFW Post 1216.

· Visitation: Friends may call at the church one hour before the service only.

Worlein Funeral Home is in charge of services.

Leonard Block, 79

Leonard Fred Block, 79, Austin, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999 at Sacred Heart Care Center.

"Moe" was born Nov. 11, 1920 in Austin; the son of William and Lucille (Huxsahl) Block. He graduated from Austin High School in 1938 and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was married to Kathryn (Kay) Mobley on July 24, 1956 at Wabasha. He had been employed as a bartender at the Austin Moose Lodge, a truck driver, a custodian with the Austin Public School district and most recently as a shoe salesman with the Hastings Shoe Services in Austin. He was a member of the Northwest Church of Christ. "Moe" was actively involved in the development of AA of Austin and had maintained his sobriety for 47 years. An avid rock collector, he specialized in agates and also made jewelry.

He was survived by sons and daughters-in-law Bruce and Sandy, Santa Yenez, Calif; Monty and Deborah Block, Aurora, Colo., Curt Block, Jacksonville, Fla., daughter Cherly K. Block, Austin; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother and sisters-in-law William and Ruth Block, Austin; Georgia Block, Austin; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Kay, three sisters and one brother.

· Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec.. 16, 1999 at Northwest Church of Christ with Pastor David V. DeFor officiating.

· Interment: Grandview Cemetery in Austin with Austin Post #91 American Legion in charge of military rites.

· Visitation: Friends may call at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church for one hour before the service on Thursday.

Gerald Boysen, 81

Gerald (Jerry) Herbert Boysen, 81, Austin, died Saturday morning, Dec. 11, 1999 at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

He is survived by his wife, Betty of Austin; daughters, Pat and husband, Blaine Amdahl, Austin; Judy and husband, James Kurkowski, Omaha, Neb.; step-daughter and husband, Carol and Dr. Irving Gottesman, Charlottesville, Va.; step-son and wife, Gary and Milla Applen, Austin; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister Ruth Iverson, Blooming Prairie and two brothers-in-law, Charles and Ardith Latcham, Red Wing; John and Kathy Latcham, Rochester; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter and six sisters.

Casket bearers are Larry Iverson, Roger Wilson, Burton Patchin, Jeff Lehman, David Applen, Brad Amdahl.

Honorary casket bearer is David Gottesman.

· Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Don Deines officiating.

· Interment: Oakwood Cemetery.

· Visitation: Friends may call at Worlein Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday and one hour before services at the church.

Robert Lickteig, Sr., 78

Robert J. Lickteig, Sr., 78, of Albert Lea, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Bayview Freeborn Funeral Home, Albert Lea.

Merle Sondegaard, 94

Merle Sondegaard, 94, of Austin, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Burr Oak Manor in Austin.

She is survived by her daughter and sons-in-law Sonja W. and Richard C. Carlson, Webster City, Iowa; James E. Miller; granddaughter Susan J. Carlson, Gainesville, Fla.; grandson Brett Miller and wife Deb Miller, St. Stephen; two great grandchildren.

· Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999 with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating.

· Interment: Oakwood Cemetery

· Visitation: Friends may call from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at Worlein Funeral Home.

Helen Enright, 77

Helen L. Enright, 77, of 17719 Highway 218 South, died Sunday at her home.

· Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 1999 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating.

· Interment: Enterprise Cemetery

· Visitation: Friends may call at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and at the church for one hour before the service on Thursday.

The Family prefers memorials to the American heart Association, The American Cancer Society or the Austin Humane Society.

Marldene F. Eppen, 90

Marldene (Dean) Eppen, 90, of Austin, died at home on Saturday morning, Dec. 11, 1999.

Dean is survived by his wife Elsie, his two sons and daughter-in-laws: Eugene and Joan, California; and Gary and Ann; Chicago, and his sister Kathleen; Florida. He also has eight grandchildren and nine great-grand children.

His parents; his brother, Eugene; and three great-grandchildren preceded him in death.

· Service: A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1200 13th Avenue NW, on Wednesday Dec. 15,1999 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William J. Natzke officiating.

· Interment: At Grandview Cemetery and then lunch at the church will follow the service. Pallbearers will be his six grandsons: Thomas, Greg, David, Peter, Paul, and James Eppen. Honorary pallbearers will be his two granddaughters: Mary Gardner and Amy Garren.

· Visitation: Friends may call at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, Austin, Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999 between 4- 8 p.m. or at the church an hour before the service at the church.

Maxine Minnihan, 82

Maxine A.F. Minnihan, 82, of New Hope, formerly of Taopi, Minn.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, William; son Jim (Cathy) of Moline, Ill.; daughters Patricia, New Hope, Margaret (George), New Ulm; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother Don (Margaret) Powers, and other relative and friends.

She was preceded in death by parents, William and Minnia Powers and brother James.

· Service: 9:15 a.m. from the Kapala-Glodek-Malone Funeral Home 7800 Bass Lake Rd. 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Raphael (7301 Bass Lake Road)

· Interment: Gethsemane Cemetery

· Visitation: Reviewal Tuesday 5-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. She was active for many years in her church and community.

Darrel Osmundson, 57

Darrel D. (Torp) Osmundson, 57, Adams, died Tuesday morning at the Adams Health Care Center.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Adams Funeral Home.
