The Vikings convincingly handed the Blossoms their first defeat of the season in Hayfield Tuesday night, 42-24.
Shooting stats tell the story. Hayfield was 17-of-33 from the field while Blooming Prairie was 10-of-45. Hayfield was 7-of-13 from the line, Blooming 1-of-11.
"We were up 10-8 after one quarter, shooting 4-of-15," Blossoms coach John Worke said. "Things got worse after that. Our shots weren’t dropping. They made some easy baskets in transition in the second and third quarter."
At the Hayfield was up 23-12. After three quarters, 30-15.
Missy Avery was the leading scorer for Blooming with 11 points.
Hayfield guard Kristin Peterson matched her total for Hayfield. While center Kristin Petersen banged home nine and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Vikings are now 5-1 on the year, while Blooming Prairie is 6-1.

The Vikings continued their successful ways Tuesday night in Blooming Prairie.
After winning the Rebel Classic this past weekend, Hayfield was raring to go once again.
The Vikings put the pressure on the Blossoms in the first quarter and went out to a 16-3 lead after eight minutes on their way to the win.
The victory improved the Vikings record to 6-1 on the season.
"We had a horrible start," Blooming Prairie coach Jon Bruns said. "We didn’t handle their pressure very well. We were slightly intimidated against a very good team. Hayfield does a lot of things well. They did a great job of rebounding tonight."
Justin Oakland was the leading scorer for the Vikings with 14 points. Seth Mattison dropped in 13.
Corey Wencl and Bryan Bruggeman each scored 10 points for Blooming Prairie.
Hayfield is off for the Holidays. BP plays in the Kasson-Mantorville holiday tournament next week. Its first game is Monday at 3 p.m. against Lake City.
Fillmore Central 52, Southland 37
The Rebels are a much improved and confident team this year.
They were in the game for three quarters against the Falcons in Fillmore, but were unable to make some shots down the stretch and
Fillmore pulled away in the fourth quarter on its way to hand the Rebels a loss in their first Southeast Conference game.
"We lost to them by 40 in the sub-sections last year," Southland head coach Greg Storey said. "We probably were within four in the third quarter. That shows how confident and improved we are.
"This was the hardest part of the schedule for us. We played some good teams, Fillmore is undefeated. Now, we’re looking forward to the New Year."
Southland was up 13-12 after one quarter, but the Falcons then outscored the Rebels 17-6 in the second quarter.
"They found some holes in our defense," Storey said, "and they played good defense, contesting every shot we took. We couldn’t make a basket in the fourth quarter. We were 2-of-14 from three point range."
Scott Schammel was the leading scorer for Southland with 10 points. Matt Decker and Gabe Peterson each chipped in seven.
Southland (4-4, 0-1) next plays in 2000. On Jan. 6, the Rebels travel to LeRoy-Ostrander.
