A house fire at 1204 15th Avenue SW in Austin is under investigation.

A house fire at 1204 15th Avenue SW in Austin is under investigation.
According to an Austin Police Department report, a neighbor telephoned the Austin – Mower County Law Enforcement Center via 911 and reported seeing flames from the home.
When Austin police officers arrived at the scene, flames were observed coming from a north peak of the home and windows were black with smoke.
The residence is occupied by Tony and Shelby Green, who were not home.
Austin firefighters brought the blaze under control but not before heavy damages were reported.
The fire was discovered near 6:35 p.m. Saturday and a State Fire Marshall’s investigator will have to determine the cause.
Christmas Eve burglaries
Two burglaries were reported at Sterling Shopping Center businesses last Friday night.
According to an Austin Police Department report, Souvahn Ounkong, owner of the Asian Market, arrived at his business Saturday to discover the front door window broken and entrance gained.
An Austin Daily Herald newspaper box was used to smash the window to the front door of the business.
Taken in the burglary was $65 in cash and coins, cans of pop and coffee, five bags of rice, energy candy bars and a Thailand movie
Next door to the 1000-B 1st Avenue SW business address of Asian Market, the Hair Plus styling salon was also entered sometime overnight last Friday.
No cash was reported missing from the styling salon, but a stereo, hair car products and hair dryers and curling irons were taken.
Austin police officers noticed the Hair Plus burglary while at the scene investigating the Asian Market burglary.
Also burglarized last Friday night was the ABC Driving School offices behind Read’s 4th Avenue Laundromat.
Entrance was gained by smashing a window on the door to the businesses which share a building along 4th Avenue NE and taken was a television and VCR, according to the police report.
