Marianna Nordaune, 100
Marianna Nordaune, 100, died Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999, at Austin Medical Center.
Marianna was born on Aug. 22, 1899, in Rennebu, Norway to Trond and Maren (Wangseng) Rye. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1917 and then attended a music academy in Austin to study violin, organ, and piano. Marianna and Andrew Nordaune were married in Blooming Prairie in 1927.
Along with her husband, the Reverend Andrew Nordaune, they accepted a call to a four-point parish in Parshall, N.D. from 1927-34. The couple moved to Hayward, Minn. in 1934 to accept a call to a four-point parish – Hayward Lutheran, Oakland Lutheran, Moscow Lutheran and Trondhjem Lutheran from 1934-50. In her role as a pastor’s wife, she was a church organist, choir director and Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Austin Symphony Orchestra as a violinist.
After her husband’s death, she was employed at St. Olaf College as a resident head of Hilleboe Hall senior women’s dormitory until 1970. After retiring, she returned to Blooming Prairie where she volunteered at Prairie Manor. Her hobbies included playing violin and piano, singing, reading, watching the Twins and the Vikings and enjoying her family and grandchildren. A member of First Lutheran in Blooming Prairie, she lived the last three years of her life as a resident at St. Mark’s Home in Austin.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon and Donna Nordaune, Austin, Kenneth and Marilyn Nordaune, Apple Valley; daughter and son-in-law, Vally and David Head, Federal Way, Wash., nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Tina Muller, New Ulm.
· Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, 1999 at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with The Rev. Richard Hegal officiating.
· Interment: Oakland Midway Cemetery, rural Oakland.
· Visitation: Friends may call at the Blooming Prairie Funeral Home Sunday (today) from 3-6 p.m. and one hour before the service at the church.
Ruth Youngman, 79
Ruth Janette Youngman, 79, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
She was a resident of Rockport, Texas since 1979. She was a member of the Arkansas County Medical Service Women’s Committee, a volunteer at the Castaways, and a member of the Ladies Guild of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
She is survived by her husband, John Youngman of Rockport, Texas, daughters Jacquelyn (Dennis) Hagman, Tempe, Ariz., and Patricia (Rodney) White, Austin; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
· Service: Private family graveside services will be held.
