A Mower County woman found some antiques in her garage, and the Minneapolis Bomb Squad helped her get rid of them.
According to reports from the Mower County Sheriff’s Department, Martha Boe of Taopi discovered some old dynamite in a wooden trunk in her garage. She called the Adams Police Department, who in turn called the Mower County Sheriff’s Department.
The LEC dispatcher advised Adams Police to contact Hennepin County, who turned them over to the Minneapolis Police bomb squad, according to Sheriff Barry Simonson.
The dynamite was examined, and was determined to be starting to crystallize is it decayed. Adams police were advised to soak it in diesel fuel. When the bomb squad arrived, they examined it and then it was convoyed to the old Adams landfill, where it was safely exploded.
Man who pointed gun at deputy won’t be prosecuted
A Brownsdale man who was accused of pointing a gun at a Mower county Sheriff’s deputy in July will not be prosecuted as long as he obeys the law, county attorneys decided.
Paul VanBuskirk, 33, had been charged with second-degree assault in connection with the incident, in which a deputy found a parked car in front of a welding shop in Sargeant.
When he approached the car, VanBuskirk stepped out with a holstered handgun.
The deputy ordered him to drop the weapon, which VanBuskirk allegedly took from the holster, pointed at the deputy, then tossed it into the car. He was placed under arrest.
During a plea hearing Friday, attorneys agreed to continue the case for 10 years, provided VanBuskirk breaks no other laws.
