HAYFIELD – Fall means football. It also means the annual fall play by the Hayfield High School drama department.
Since shortly after the start of the 1999-2000 school year, Dory Sparks, director, and her students have been rehearsing.
This year’s choice is a murder mystery. Sparks calls it a "real whodunit."
The play "Ghost Detective" will be performed Nov. 5, at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. and Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. All performances take place in the high school auditorium.
Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets are available at the school administration office.
According to director Sparks, "Ghost Detective" takes place in current times at a Hollywood party to premier a new movie.
However, the lead actor in the film dies of a mysterious death and the crime must be solved.
When the detective assigned to solve the murder mystery also dies, the plot thickens.
"The ghost of the detective wanders the stage and can communicate only with his girlfriend and together, the ghost detective and the girlfriend attempt to solve the mystery," Sparks said.
The play takes place on one set in the living room of the deceased movie star’s mansion on Storm Island.
Solving the mystery becomes even more complicated when the butler is killed and a gossip columnist also dies, according to Sparks.
Five actors are involved, plus two extras and two stagehands. One freshman student has a part as well as a long senior. The rest are sophomores and juniors.
Rehearsals started immediately after tryouts Sept. 13.
Because so few males tried out for the play, director Sparks had to improvise; thus females will take on male parts in the play.
Jamie Wilcox, a junior from Brownsdale, has the lead role of the detective. Allison, Woodwick, a senior from Hayfield, plays the detective’s girlfriend.
The actors include Allison Woodwick, Desi Weidert, Colleen Adams, Jackie Stevens, Amanda Woslager, Aimee Grosam, Meghan Adams, Amy Kilen, Amy Eggert, Kari Haugh, Jamie Wilcox, Erin Sparks, Amber Petty, Andy Hoebing, Katie Bennett, Allison Heimer and Hailey Tiegen.
Bonnie Thoe is in charge of lights and Peter Evans will supervise sound.
