Both Austin Utilities and the city of Austin are hosting an open house today. Tours of both sides of the Municipal Building – Austin Utilities offices and City Hall – are available, as well as refreshments and door prizes. The Municipal Building is located at 500 4th Ave. NE.

Tours of both power plants – one across the street at the downtown, the other northeast of Austin past Todd Park – run from noon to 7 p.m. with electric safety demonstrations, information on customer programs and metering and equipment displays.

Fourth graders from area schools will tour both facilities Thursday, in honor of Public Power week and because the 4th grade curriculum includes water and electricity.

All ages are invited to attend today’s open house and tours. There was also an 11 a.m. tree planting in memory of the late Richard Baudler, a long-time utility board member.
